What is menstruation?
The menstruation, also called period, menstrual bleeding, menses, is – simply put – a cyclic bleeding from the vagina occurring in every sexually mature woman. During the menstrual period about 60 to 75 ml (half a cup) of blood is lost (depending on the use of contraception). The cycle is regulated by hormones. The menstrual cycle is controlled by a gland at the bottom of the brain, the hypophysis. The hypophysis produces hormones which end up in the bloodstream. This is how the ovaries receive the instruction to alternately let an egg ripe every month. If the egg is not fertilized it dies and is dissolved before it has reached the womb. The corpus luteum (the empty follicle) also dies causing the oestrogen and progesterone levels to drop in the blood. The endometrium (which has now become superfluous) can not maintain itself and starts to detach from the womb wall. It is rejected: the bleeding starts and the cycle repeats itself. Hygiene and care To collect the blood which is released during your period you can use pads (e.g. Always or Libresse), tampons (Ob tampons, Tampax tampons) or tampon sponges such as Wellness tampons. It is important, when using all these menstruation products, to take good care of your hygiene. Always wash your hands before changing the tampon, pad or tampon sponge and change the menstrual product on time.
Menstruation and sex Some women feel more like having sex during their period than others. Biologists explain this by the fact that women are almost sure that they cannot get pregnant at that time and are therefore less inhibited. There are practically no medical objections against having intercourse during your period. Having sex during their period can be very relaxing or arousing for some women. The Wellness Tampon allows you to have sex during your menstrual period. Thanks to the structure of the sponge and the shape of the tampon, you can have intercourse without a care in the world. However, Wellness Tampon, like other tampons such as Ob tampons, are not a method of contraception.
